今年のリストは、女性をマーケットターゲットとした化粧品、リテールの会社からだけでなくメリンダ・ゲイツ（Co-founder and Co-chair, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation） やNeelie Kroes （EU Antitrust Commissioner, 欧州委員会委員）等、NPOや公益・公共団体を含む広い範囲の業種から選ばれているのが特徴です。
ウォールストリートジャーナル記者Carol Hymowitzは、「50人の共通点は女性が出来ること・出来ないこと、いわゆるステレオタイプを破り新たな機会を女性達に作った」と述べています。 日本からは、NTTDoCoMoの女性役員第一号、井手明子氏が44位に選ばれました。
